Gohmert on Supreme Court Obamacare Ruling

Gohmert on Supreme Court ObamaCare Ruling

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01) released the following statement concerning the decision made today by the United States Supreme Court finding as valid the subsidies that the Affordable Care Act said were illegal:

“In recent years, the U.S. Constitution has taken a severe beating at the hands of this president’s administration. The United States Supreme Court has now added to the Constitutional malfeasance by decreeing from on high that what the Affordable Care Act itself said is not legal is legal.

“In this instance, the Supreme Court has completely abandoned any semblance of basing its rulings on the law. This opinion indicates that the majority put far greater weight on what the leftwing media might say if the Supreme Court followed the law itself, even to the point of writing laws that Congress did not write.

“The truth is that the American people did not want ObamaCare before it passed. After it passed, they did not like losing their insurance or their doctor they wanted to keep or even their hospital that was critical to their lives. They’ve been left with higher premiums, higher out of pocket costs and less coverage than the policies they liked and lost.

“Since its inception, President Obama’s Affordable Care Act has been a train wreck. From the broken promises and skyrocketing premiums to the malfunctioning website and the panoply of privacy issues that have surfaced, the majority of the American people want to wake from this ObamaCare nightmare.

“Americans should have the right to choose our own healthcare providers. Whether our small handful of elitist Washington leadership, which includes the majority on the Supreme Court, should be allowed to continue to trample on our Constitutional rights at will is the fundamental question of this era.”

Congressman Gohmert is the Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and the Vice Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. Prior to being elected to serve in Congress, he was elected to three terms as District Judge in Smith County, Texas and was appointed by then Texas Governor Rick Perry to complete a term as Chief Justice of the 12th Court of Appeals.

GOH Conservative PAC Endorses Mike Flynn for Congress

Gohmert-Flynn.jpg

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01) released the following statement today endorsing conservative media warrior, Mike Flynn, in the special election for Illinois’ 18th Congressional District:

“A former policy director for the American Legislative Exchange Council and founder of Breitbart’s BigGovernment.com, Mike Flynn has proven to be a standup patriot and true freedom-loving conservative with a titanium backbone. His strong background in conservative media and experience in holding Republican leaders accountable will make him indispensable in the trenches of Capitol Hill fighting for liberty and justice.

It is time to get people in Washington with the founders’ passion for freedom and less government invasion and control of our lives, both private and public. Mike embodies the mission statement upon which GOH Conservative PAC was founded. He will surely stand on principle and govern as he campaigned – to get our country back on a responsible, practical, entrepreneurial road.”

You Won't Meet A Nicer Politician Than Louie Gohmert

GOH_Conservatiev_donate.jpgWhen you are in the line of work that I am, namely writing, researching and bloviating about politics, you meet a lot of politicians and powerful people. I have had the pleasure of meeting congressmen, U.S. Senators, presidential candidates, captains of industry, and many other powerful people. Last night, I met one of those people, who also happens to be the one of the most down to earth people I’ve ever met.

Congressman Louie Gohmert came to Boston last evening to talk to the Renew Massachusetts Coalition, a pro-family organization in Massachusetts – in full disclosure run by my roommate. I was immediately struck by whom Congressman Gohmert gravitated to. It wasn’t the monied interests, or the older folks – like myself – who were at the event. No, it was the young folks scattered among the crowd. At one particular point when a group of high school students were getting ready to leave, Gohmert abruptly stopped talking to some of us old folks to make sure he spent time with these kids, to thank them for what they are doing for the country. It immediately struck me as a very classy thing to do.

The media often portrays people like Congressman Gohmert as bomb throwers, and all of the negative baggage that goes with that. To be sure the Congressman is a committed conservative, as is evident by his 94% Liberty Score over at Conservative Review. That doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the most pleasant people I’ve had the opportunity to spend an evening with.
